Nominations and Elections

A. Qualification

1. Legal
Any person who is a qualified elector under the General Laws of the State is qualified to vote at the election of officers in any school district in the state in which he resides. (He is eligible as a member of the school board, or may be appointed as a judge or clerk of election. The District Clerk need not be a resident of the district.) (15-47-05)

2. Personal
Board member should:
(1) Be successful in his vocation
(2) Obsess sound judgment and be public spirited
(3) Be cooperative
(4) Be familiar with the needs of the school system
(5) Be of good character
(6) Be a believer in public education

B. Nominations
In the United Public School District #7, the person desiring to be a candidate at the annual election shall file his name and the name of the office, which he seeks with the clerk of the school board not less than twenty days prior to the election. (15-28-09) NDRC
C. Date and Time of Election

One week prior to a school election, the superintendent and clerk will assure that proper notices are placed in conspicuous locations; as well as the news media listing the purpose of the election, location of polling place and also if applicable, list the names of those seeking seats on the school board. The annual election shall be held on the first or second Tuesday in June of each year. Hours shall be from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M, and those elections will be held at the DesLacs-Burlington High School and the Burlington-DesLacs Elementary School. When the state and/or city has an election the school board election will be run at the same location and times. The Des Lacs City Hall and the Burlington City Hall and the hours will be 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
